Toastmasters Youth Leadership Programme 2011
Laerskool Anton van Wouw in conjunction with the Forum Toastmasters Club will present a Youth Leadership Programme for Grade 6 and 7 learners during the second term. Toastmasters is an international public speaking organization whose aim is to improve communication, leadership and listening skills. The course will be presented by Mr Bowker, a member of The Forum Toasmaster Club and co-ordinated by Mrs Bowker, a Grad 7 English teacher and Miss. Carien Geertsema.
The course will comprise of six sessions which will be held on six consecutive Monday evenings from 18:00 to 20:00 at school.
The sessions are as follows:
Session 1 (09/05) - Types of speeches, use of notes, subject choice for a speech.
Session 2 (16/05) - Structure of a speech, use of voice, introducing and thanking a guest speaker.
Session 3 (23/05) - Use of language, body language, saying grace and proposing toasts.
Session 4 (30/05) - Use of visual aids, props and support material, use of microphone.
Session 5 (06/06) - Revision of sessions 1-4 and allocation of banquet tasks.
Session 6 (13/06) - Banquet Dress Rehearsal.
It is imperative that a learner attends all six sessions including the banquet as the course follows a progression. The course culminates in a banquet which will be held on Monday, 20 June 2011 at the Waterkloof Golf Club at 18:30 to approximately 21:30. At the banquet, the learners will have an opportunity to display to their parents and friends, the skills which they have acquired throughout the course. This is the highlight t of the course.
The course will be presented in English but the learners may deliver their speeches in English or Afrikaans.
The cost of the course is R450 per child. Further costs for the banquet will be communicated to you later but will be approximately R120 per head.
If you would like your child to participate, please complete the attached reply slip and return it to Miss. Geertsema by Tuesday, 19 April 2011. The R450 is payable in full by 29 April 2011. The course is limited to 25 learners and enrolment is on a “first come first served” basis.
